Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), organized the Asia Pacific Cloud AI Forum & Huawei Developer Competition: Innovate Today, Transform Tomorrow on January 20-21, 2025, to support the development of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) professionals, specifically focusing on cloud system developers. This collaboration reflects a shared vision to elevate Thailand as the digital economy hub of ASEAN. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, officiated the event’s opening on January 21, 2025, at the Sala Phra Kiew.
The Asia Pacific Cloud AI Forum & Huawei Developer Competition was held under the theme “Spark Infinity: Innovate Today, Transform Tomorrow,” emphasizing the latest advancements in cloud technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The event included presentations from speakers, solution demonstrations, and in-depth discussions. A key event highlight was the Huawei Developer Competition, with nearly 200 teams and over 600 participants collaborating to solve real-world problems using Huawei’s comprehensive ecosystem, including API Explorer, CodeArts, ModelArts, and DataArts Studio. The competition emphasized creativity, technical expertise, and innovation in AI-driven solutions, sustainable technologies, accelerating AI adoption in cloud systems, and developing a robust developer network. The event gathered over 300 industry leaders, developers, and academics from the Asia Pacific region to inspire innovation and foster collaboration between academia and industry.
Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, stated, “The collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Huawei is a significant step in developing the digital expertise that Thailand needs to move forward in the Intelligent Era. Working with a global technology leader like Huawei helps us better prepare our students to innovate and engage in the country’s digital transformation process.”
Dr. Chawapol Jariyawiroj, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “The Asia Pacific Cloud AI Forum demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to being a regional leader in AI and digital innovation. We support the ‘Cloud-First Policy’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence’ as key pillars to drive the country’s digital economy forward.”
Huawei plays a key role in supporting the Cloud-First and AI policies by providing cutting-edge cloud technology, AI platforms, and training programs. Thailand’s Cloud-First policy is a vital foundation for transforming the economy through innovation, prioritizing cloud services for IT infrastructure to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Meanwhile, the AI Thailand Strategy (2022-2027) focuses on creating an AI-integrated ecosystem across sectors to drive economic growth and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Dr. Chawapol added, “Huawei believes developers are the architects of the Intelligent Era. Their ideas, code, and drive are the starting points for innovation. As an organization committed to creating a sustainable ecosystem, we have trained nearly 100,000 digital professionals in Thailand over the past five years, including almost 12,000 advanced cloud AI developers, in collaboration with over 50 universities through ICT Academy programs such as competitions, training, internships, and technical consulting. These efforts are part of our initiative to enhance human resource capabilities and create new opportunities for growth and innovation in Thailand and Southeast Asia. We hope these projects will inspire people to explore the potential of Cloud AI and help drive future development.”
As one of the founding institutions of the “Huawei Academy,” the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) shared its practical experiences from three key dimensions: industry-academia integration, intelligent education, and digital workforce development. “As a key training center for digital economy personnel and an innovation hub for ICT technology, BUPT is committed to exploring new cooperation models with the private sector and has fully implemented various platforms such as the UNTES Future Learning Center, which focuses on preparing talent for the intelligent era,” said Wang Yao, Director of the International Office at BUPT.
At the event, the winning teams shared case studies applying innovations on the HUAWEI CLOUD platform, such as developing a remote speech therapy support system using AI technology to enhance effective and convenient treatment for patients with speech disorders and designing an integrated smart building management system to improve efficiency and safety in building operations through intelligent technology. These projects highlight the developers’ ability to apply scientific technology and innovation to solve real-world problems effectively.
Additionally, Huawei and over 10 business partners from Thailand organized a Job Fair to create a platform for leading organizations to connect with talented developers and students, helping them select and attract high-potential personnel, while also exploring future collaboration opportunities to build a flexible and sustainable industry ecosystem.
The winning teams of the Huawei Developer Competition will receive a total prize value of $34,000, technical training focusing on HUAWEI CLOUD, and opportunities to collaborate with Huawei on future projects, reflecting Huawei’s commitment to developing technology professionals in the region.
