On January 29, 2025, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, represented by Prof. Dr. Kumkom Pornprasit, Dean of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, signed an MOU for academic collaboration with Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture, represented by Mr. Shohbek Ergashev, First Vice-Rector for Youth Affairs and Spiritual and Educational Affairs, Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Fakhriddin Sultanov, Consul-General of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornprapit Phoasavadi, Deputy Dean for International Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Prapon Kumjim, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, with Dr. Pornrak Chowvanayotin from the Department of Visual Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Atthaphon Ponglawhapun photographically recording the event. The collaboration between the two institutions will lead to a stronger relationship and generate more research between students and faculty.
The performances celebrating this event were held at the Music Hall, Art and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University. Asst. Prof. Dr. Atthaphon Ponglawhapun, Head of the Department of Creative Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, oversaw the exhibition. Music and dance performances from both institutions were given. Artists from Uzbekistan consisted of 12 professors holding a national artist position, faculty members, and students. The performance by Chulalongkorn University was delivered by the Departments of Music and Dance, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pattara Komkam, Head of the Music Department, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Suphannee Boonpeng, Head of the Dance Department. Stage, lighting and sound were directed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirithorn Srichalakom, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, who also organized the 4-region performance towards the end of the event.
These performances marked the first step in establishing cultural and artistic relations between the two institutions. The event was attended by representatives from the Italian Embassy, Kazakhstan Embassy, Russian Embassy, Bangladeshi Embassy, representatives from the Russian Dance Academy, representatives from the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, and the Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with approximately 200 Thai and international audience members.
