Art Exhibition: Genesis Through Siamese and Persian Eyes

Art Exhibition: Genesis Through Siamese and Persian Eyes

The Office of Art and Culture and the South Asian Studies Center, Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, cordially invite you to the art exhibition “Genesis Through Siamese and Persian Eyes” from March 27– June 4, 2025, on the 1st floor of the Chulalongkorn University Museum.

This exhibition brings to life the ancient Lanna legend “Pathommunmuli,” an old palm-leaf manuscript from northern Thailand that narrates the creation of the world by Grandfather Sangkhaya Sangkasi and Grandmother Itthangkhaya Sangkasi who are regarded as the ancestors of Lanna.

The exhibition showcases the works of two artists from distinct cultural traditions. Kangwanprai Chompupuen from Thailand interprets the legend through a contemporary Thai acrylic painting on canvas, and Arash Geroeian from Iran, uses traditional Persian watercolor techniques on paper. The two artists have also collaborated on special pieces that blend their unique artistic identities.

“Pathommunmuli” has been transcribed by Dr. Anatole Roger Peltier and published in three languages—Thai, French, and English. This exhibition serves as a space for cultural exchange, fostering a dialogue between Thai and Persian artistic, literary, and historical traditions.

Admission is free.
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
(Closed on weekends and public holidays)
