The 7th EnvironmentAsia International Conference 2025 brought together academics, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, students, and civil society representatives to exchange knowledge, propose solutions, and inspire collective action. Its goal was to strengthen collaboration and accelerate the transition toward sustainability at all levels.

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat emphasized the urgency of addressing today’s global challenges, stating,

“The interconnected impacts of global environmental crises are creating overlapping chains of social and ecological consequences. These represent complex threats to the long-term survival of humanity, global ecosystems, and future generations. This international academic conference is more than just a forum for exchanging ideas; it is an interdisciplinary platform that fosters new frameworks for cooperation across sectors and communities. The shared knowledge, collective responsibility, and mutual hope emerging from this conference will play a vital role in empowering global citizens to move toward a sustainable future.”

Highlights of the conference included oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, networking sessions, and expert lectures on critical environmental issues, such as:

  • “Three Crises, One Planet: Insights on Global and Asian Pathways Forward” by Marie Jurisoo, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)
  • “Ecology-inspired Solutions for Healthier Environment and Climate-resiliency in Agricultural Production” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sanjay Swarup, National University of Singapore (NUS)
  • “Environmental Challenges and Crises in the Next Decade: What’s Coming and What Must Be Done?” by Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, Thailand Environment Institute (TEI)
  • “From Nexus to Solutions: Tackling the Planetary Crisis via Water–Food–Energy–Land–Climate Linkages” by Prof. Dr. Shabbir H. Gheewala, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT)

The international conference drew over 200 participants from academic institutions, research organizations, government agencies, and the private sector. More than 20 domestic institutions and organizations from 10 countries—including Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, Nepal, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, and South Korea—contributed research papers.

The conference reaffirmed Chulalongkorn University’s role as a regional hub for advancing environmental knowledge and fostering international cooperation for sustainable development.

Chula is the place to discover one’s true individuality and the years I spent here were most enjoyable.
