Chula Commemorates the 108th Anniversary of Thai National Flag Day

The “Thai national flag” is a symbol of the nation, reflecting its identity, sovereignty, and the pride of all Thai people. On the occasion of the 108th anniversary of Thai National Flag Day, September 28, 2025, Chulalongkorn University has joined in commemorating this day by displaying a large Thai national flag at the Mahitaladhibesra Building and illuminating the Thai flag symbol at the Research Affairs Building. These acts serve as striking and beautiful tributes to the royal benevolence of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), who bestowed the tricolor flag (Thong Trairong) as the national flag of Thailand.

King Vajiravudh graciously enacted a revision to the Flag Act, B.E. 2460 (1917), which was announced on September 28, 1917. The key provision of this announcement was the official designation of the tricolor flag as the national flag of Thailand, a status it has retained to this day. As a result, September 28 of every year is designated as “Thai National Flag Day”.

The sense of kinship and warmth found in the Chula community is priceless and a treasure worth keeping.
