Professor Dr. Pornanong Aramwit, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, on behalf of the University President, delivered the welcome remarks and officially opened the Mekong Environmental Resilience Week (MERW) 2025 on November 19, 2025, at Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn. The event was organized by the Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute in collaboration with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and the Embassy of Sweden. Associate Professor Dr. Unruan Leknoi, Director of the Social Research Institute, also attended the event.
This year’s event was held under the theme “Learning from the Past, Shaping Inclusive Futures for Mekong Resilience” from November 18–20, 2025, at the Surasak Room, Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn. More than 100 participants from government agencies, academia, development partners, and Mekong Basin communities joined in to discuss water, energy, and climate issues and to explore collaborative approaches for the region’s sustainable development.
In the morning session, Professor Pornanong delivered the opening remarks for the MTT-SUMERNET Regional Policy Forum 2025: Advancing Water-Energy-Climate Nexus Solutions for a Resilient Mekong.
In the evening, she also presided over the opening of the 20th Anniversary of SUMERNET (Sustainable Mekong Research Network), recognizing Chulalongkorn University’s role as one of SUMERNET’s founding members since 2005.
