The Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, led by Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Academic Services, organized a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic and research collaboration between the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, and the Health Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. Kaywalee Chatdarong, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Duangporn Pinjisekikul, Director of the Health Department, BMA. The event took place on December 26, 2025, at the 10th-floor conference room of the Sattawitthayawijak Building, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University.
This collaboration aims to exchange knowledge and resources as part of a network partnership, particularly in areas such as responsible pet ownership, control and prevention of rabies in dogs and cats, zoonotic diseases, public knowledge dissemination, community services, and support for public health policies, as well as animal health care and prevention of animal diseases at the local level. The collaboration is set for a period of five years, with the goal of enhancing quality of life and safety for people in the Bangkok metropolitan area.
Executives from various faculties, institutes, and organizations who honored the ceremony included Asst. Prof. Dr. Tewin Tencomnao, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University; Prof. Dr. Nuttha Thongchul,, Director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering; and Prof. Dr. Yuttanant Boonyongmaneerat, Director of the Institute of Metals and Materials Research. Also present were Dr. Pattarapong Chancharoen, Head of the Meat Control and Inspection Group, Office of Public Veterinary Services, Health Department, BMA, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Pawana Chuesiri, Assistant Dean for Public Relations and Corporate Image, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, who led a team showcasing various innovations. These included a visual-read test kit for detecting beta-lactam and colistin resistance genes in swine feces, an electrochemical test strip for diagnosing melioidosis, a Salmonella detection kit, and a canine mannequin used for life-saving training.
In addition, the Office of Public Veterinary Services, led by the Director, Dr. Sittapol Iamwisoot, deployed a team of veterinarians to provide free microchip registration services for 300 dogs and cats, which attracted significant public interest. There were also discussions on collaborative approaches with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Theerawat Tharasanit, Associate Dean and Director of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, to encourage public awareness and participation in responsible animal care.
This signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks an important step in strengthening inter-agency collaboration, leading to the development of research-based knowledge and the practical application of outcomes, ultimately creating long-term positive impacts on society.
