The Halal Science Center of Chulalongkorn University, together with the Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), hosted the Thailand Halal Assembly 2025 (THA2025) on December 18–19, 2025, at Al Meroz Hotel, Bangkok. Now in its 12th consecutive year, the event was held under the theme “Green Halal Beyond Sustainability,” aiming towards driving a new model for the development of the modern halal industry that integrates environmental considerations, religious principles, social dimensions, and innovation in order to elevate Thailand’s halal standards to the international level.
Dr. Pornpimol Mahamad, Director of the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, and Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated that “THA2025 continues to stand firm as a key platform for the exchange of knowledge in halal science, innovation, social sciences, safety, and the environment. Its goal is to enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s halal industry so that it can grow in a stable and sustainable manner through development that addresses both academic dimensions and the continuously expanding global halal economy.”
The opening ceremony will be presided over by Mr. Surapong Namchaitruchipong, Assistant Minister of Industry, and will be attended by distinguished figures from Thailand and abroad, including His Excellency Arun Boonchom, the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand; H.E. Mr. Ihsan Ovut, Secretary General of SMIIC; Pol. Maj. Gen. Surin Palare, Secretary General of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand; Prof. Dr. Pradermchai Kongkam, Assistant to the President of Chulalongkorn University, representing the University President; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Winai Dahlan, Founder and Advisor to the Director of the Halal Science Center. Representatives from international halal certification bodies, government agencies, the private sector, and experts from various fields will also be present.
Activities throughout the event will cover a wide range of academic areas, including the International Halal Science and Technology Conference (IHSATEC 2025 – The 18th HASIB) and academic exhibitions under the theme “Green Halal Economy: Beyond Sustainability.” These will demonstrate how halal principles can serve as a key mechanism for global environmental restoration, presenting significant business opportunities that respond to environmentally conscious consumers worldwide.
The event will also feature the IMT–GT WGHAPAS International Workshop, a strategic meeting of the Halal Products and Services Working Group under the Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT–GT) development framework. The workshop will focus on driving regional cooperation, maintaining halal integrity, promoting sustainable practices, and knowledge transfer activities. In addition, the Green Halal Workshop, titled “Green Halal Make-Your-Own Beauty,” will provide a hands-on experience with experts from Herbalstudio, allowing participants to create products themselves and take them home.
Furthermore, academic cooperation agreements will be signed covering research, knowledge exchange, and personnel exchange in halal science between the Halal Science Center of Chulalongkorn University and organizations from 12 countries. The event will also include presentations and competitions of more than 70 research works by researchers, students, and interested participants from Thailand and abroad, representing 34 countries. Selected works will be published in the Journal of Halal Science, Industry and Business (JHASIB), an international journal that is indexed in ASCI, the ICI Journals Master List, and Google Scholar, and is currently under consideration for inclusion in the Scopus database.
