“MDCU MedUMORE,” an innovation from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, received the Prize Winner award in the Education Sector Innovations category.

The Quality Innovation Award (QIA) is an international innovation competition spanning countries and industries. It has been held annually for 19 consecutive years by the Thailand Productivity Institute under the administration of the National Quality Award Office. This year, 565 innovations from 6 countries were submitted, covering 8 sectors such as Public Sector, Healthcare, Education, Business, and others. QIA serves as a global innovation platform with highly rigorous standards. Award-winning innovations must demonstrate excellence in value creation, impact, and successful real-world implementation.

“DMIND” is an AI-powered application for screening individuals with depression, using facial recognition, voice analysis, and text-based assessment. This innovation was developed by Associate Professor Dr. Solaphat Hemrungrojn, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Associate Professor Dr. Peerapon Vateekul and Assistant Professor Dr. Natawut Nupairoj, Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, from the Center of Excellence in Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence for Mental Health (AIMET).

Currently, the number of patients with depression is increasing significantly, while the number of psychiatrists remains insufficient. DMIND helps reduce the workload of psychiatrists and psychologists by using AI to accurately analyze data such as facial expressions, gestures, voice tone, and emotional cues of individuals with depression. The application is easily accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, enabling rapid screening and timely assistance. It is user-friendly for all groups, particularly vulnerable to populations, and ensures personal data security. DMIND helps reduce the risk of mental health crises. As of 2025, the application has been used more than 400,000 times, enabling over 12,000 high-risk individuals with severe depression to access mental health services. Furthermore, DMIND has demonstrated tangible impact and user relevance; economic and social return assessments show that DMIND is cost-effective and delivers a high level of Social Return on Investment (SROI).
