Chulalongkorn University and Bumrungrad Hospital Public Company Limited have entered an academic collaboration agreement on research and development to jointly conduct and develop research projects aimed at creating medical innovations and technologies. The ceremony took place on January 29, 2026, at the Social Innovation Hub, ground floor, Visid Prachuabmoh Building. The agreement was signed by Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Artirat Charukitpipat, Chief Executive Officer of Bumrungrad Hospital.
Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, spoke about the roles and collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Bumrungrad Hospital in fostering medical innovation. This partnership integrates the strengths of an academic knowledge-generation institution with those of a healthcare provider equipped for real-world practice. It also serves as a key mechanism for driving innovations that create broad positive economic and social impacts. In terms of human capital development, Chulalongkorn University emphasizes cultivating strong “innovators” who can create innovations that address societal needs and lead to improvements in the quality of life for Thai people through the innovations that will emerge from this collaboration.
Associate Professor Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr, Assistant President for Innovation at Chulalongkorn University, stated, “The collaboration between Chulalongkorn University, a leading educational institution, and Bumrungrad Hospital, a leading private hospital, will yield positive outcomes. Beyond research collaboration, we aim to push research outputs and products toward real-world utilization—commercially, in policy, and for public benefit—through systematically organized support activities. In addition to enhancing people’s quality of life, this collaboration can generate economic value and strengthen both organizations in the long term.”
Dr. Artirat Charukitpipat, Chief Executive Officer of Bumrungrad Hospital, said, “This collaboration represents a joining of forces to create value for society, with the goal of developing innovations, technologies, and medical personnel who are well prepared both academically and in practical skills. This will help drive Thailand toward becoming a medical hub in Asia and a global health destination, delivering the best possible care experience to patients—which lies at the heart of Bumrungrad Hospital’s mission. We hope this collaboration will bring sustainable benefits to Thailand’s public health sector.”
The academic, research, and research project development collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Bumrungrad Hospital Public Company Limited focuses on knowledge exchange, academic consultation, and the organization of activities related to or supporting learning in medical innovation and technology. It also emphasizes capacity building for personnel through academic and professional training. The collaboration provides opportunities for Chulalongkorn University students to study and receive hands-on training in real-world private healthcare settings, while Bumrungrad Hospital personnel can participate in regular degree programs and non-degree programs to comprehensively enhance their knowledge and skills. This serves as a key mechanism for advancing research and translating it into tangible, practical applications.
