AnnouncementThe Coronavirus Emergency Response CenterChulalongkorn UniversityRe: Third member of CU community infected by COVID-19
On April 4, 2020 Dr. Narin Hiransuthikul, Chairperson of the Coronavirus Emergency Response Center was informed by Prof. Dr. Roongroje Thanawongnuwech, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University that a graduate student of the Faculty of Veterinary Science had been tested positive for COVID-19 at Sirirat Hospital. The said student has since been admitted for treatment at Chulalongkorn Hospital and this marks the third reported case for the Chulalongkorn University community.
The Faculty of Veterinary Science assures us it has strictly adhered to the university’s guidelines on incidents of COVID-19 infected persons (see https://www.chula.ac.th/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/SOP-Covid-Thai.pdf) which authorizes the collection of data from the patients including their close contacts, places visited and activities during the period of 14 days before detection of infection to be submitted to the chairperson of the Coronavirus Emergency Response Center within 24 hours. It has also locked down the work area of the Faculty and carried out cleaning and sanitization procedures of its premises according to public health standards on April 5, 2020.
In addition to those measures, the Coronavirus Emergency Response Center has contacted persons who came into close contact with the infected person to offer advice and evaluate the possible risks of infection accordingly.
Should there be any developments on this matter the university will provide further updates and information.
Announced on this April 4, 2020.
