The U.S. News & World Report website has recently released the annual global universities rankings, entitled “Best Global Universities 2018”, which has placed Chulalongkorn University at #2 in Thailand #89 in Asia and #539 worldwide. These rankings conducted by the U.S. News are determined by using 13 selective indicators, including global research reputation, publications, conferences, and total citations, to measure an institution’s performance prior to ranking.
The indicators revealed that Chulalongkorn University is ranked at #38 for regional research reputation and at #291 for global research reputation. Moreover, a number of subjects, such as Physics, Engineering, and Plant and Animal Science, were ranked in the top 400 worldwide for subject rankings.
According to the U.S. News, the world’s top 10 best universities goes to:
#1 Harvard University (U.S.) #2 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.) #3 Stanford University (U.S.) #4 University of California—Berkeley (U.S.) #5 University of Oxford (U.K.) #6 California Institute of Technology (U.S.) #7 University of Cambridge (U.K.) #8 Columbia University (U.S.) #9 Princeton University (U.S.) #10 Johns Hopkins University (U.S.) (tie) #10 University of Washington (U.S.) (tie) #10 Yale University (U.S.) (tie)
In addition, five other Thai universities were listed in the best top 1,000 global universities, including Mahidol University (#509), Chiang Mai University (#838), Kasetsart University (#922), Prince Sonkla University (#961) and Khon Kaen University (#971).
