In the latest Seoul International Invention Fair 2017, Chulalongkorn faculty and students were awarded with Grand Prizes for the invention of FRESH2JOY, a capsule that inhibits fungal and bacterial growth and extends the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables, and the ABLE walker: Automatic Balance Level Easy Walker, which helps orthopedic patients and the elderly go up and down stairs more easily. The Seoul International Invention Fair 2017 is a 4-day event organised for inventors and researchers to exhibit new ideas and promote inventions on a global scale. The event was held between 30 November – 4 December 2017, in Seoul, South Korea.
For this event, the National Research Council of Thailand, in collaboration with other research departments in the country, selected a total of 101 inventions to be presented at the fair. Of all the inventions submitted by Thailand, 56 took home Gold Medals, 18 were awarded with Silver Medals, 23 were given Bronze Medals and 20 inventions were recognised with the Special Prize. The highest level of recognition from the Seoul International Invention Fair is the Grand Prize, which was awarded to two Thai inventor teams: the FRESH2JOY research team, led by Professor Dr. Nongnuj Muangsin of the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, and the ABLE walker inventors, a group of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School students, consisting of Supichaya Hemrungrojn, Matchima Suvichsopa, Korn Hemrungrojn, Kullanat Tovikai and Jaomai Tungsiripat.
In addition, a second group of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School students won a gold medal for the “Smart First Aid Kit”, while several other teams from CU, including the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Education, were also honoured with prizes.
