The Office of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Department of Thai Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts of Chulalongkorn University organized the 16th International Thai Culture Camp during 25-28 January 2018. The objective is to provide cultural exchange and musical knowledge among professors and students in the region. This year, Chulalongkorn University welcomed a total of 130 attendees, including students and professors from the People’s Republic of China, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Camp activities included International Night, an opening ceremony to welcome participants and cultural music and dance performances from all the countries joining the camp. The opening ceremony was held on 25 January 2017 at the Art and Culture Auditorium, Chulalongkorn University. Honorary guests on International Night included Professor Dr. Bussakorn Binson, Dean of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, ambassadors and cultural diplomats from the participating countries, and representatives from the United Nations. Hands-on music and dance workshops was held between 26-29 January 2018 with guest speakers from the University of Dhaka, Yunnan University, Universiti Putra Malaysia, University of Malaya, University of the Philippines, and Sofi Yuanita, a renowned artist from Indonesia.
For the closing ceremony, Thai Night, the highlight was when participants joined for a final performance featuring Thai musical instruments and dance. This marked another success in supporting education about the country’s cultural heritage and building an ASEAN network, parallel to the University’s vision. Additionally, it was great opportunity for participating students and professors from various universities to experience different cultures and arts.
