World’s New Stream Frog Found in Myanmar:  Chula Researcher Indicates Its Ecosystem Is Intact

A biologist from the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University working with researchers from Germany and Myanmar has discovered two of the world’s newest stream frogs in Myanmar highlighting the remaining diversity of ecosystems in Southeast Asia and cautions all those involved of the need to conserve our forests before our valuable wildlife become extinct.

Researchers from Chulalongkorn University have made use of forage grass to feed microorganisms and convert the resulting fat into jet fuel. They aim to expand petroleum-based oil replacement production to reduce impacts on human health and the environment.

The Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with the Thailand Foundation is promoting the learning of Thai language as a new form of Soft Power which is rapidly gaining popularity internationally. It has now launched language instructional media for teaching Thai in nine languages via Chula MOOC and the E-book format.

After legalizing the Kratom plant in Thailand, researchers can now build upon a longstanding local wisdom to use the plants for healing.   Dr. Thongchai Sooksawate, a lecturer from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chulalongkorn University, presents his ongoing research to use Kratom plants as analgesic, anti-inflammatory drugs, and detoxification aids for substance addiction, offering natural alternatives to chemical medications.

Chulalongkorn Scholar Invites Young Designers to Ride on “Elephant Pants” Wave, Promoting  Cultural Identity as a Form of Thai Soft Power

Chula scholar recommended that the Thai government recognize the Elephant Pants as a Soft Power by featuring them in cultural activities, supporting local craftsmen, promoting the product in international fashion events, and sharing the origin and sustainability of the Elephant Pants on digital platforms. This will improve Thailand’s image and support the local economy.

GoodWalk Thailand: Designing “Walkable City” Revitalizing the Economy, Enhancing Quality of Life for City Dwellers

Chula joins hands with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) to design “Walkable City” using the GoodWalk Score as the criteria for selecting the pilot area to be developed as Walkable City in Bangkok as well as many cities around the country.  The plan is to help reduce pollution, revitalize tourism, and the local economy while enhancing the quality of life and health for city dwellers.
