Chulalongkorn University — Naresuan University Sign an MOU to Create Impactful Research

Prof. Dr. Narin Hiransuthikul, Chulalongkorn University’s Vice President, along with Assoc. Prof. Pharm. Dr. Vithaya Kulsomboon, Director of the Second Century Fund (C2F), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pannee Cheewinsiriwat, Assistant Vice President for Research Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nattapong Punnoi, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Architecture, and faculty members from Chulalongkorn University signed an academic MOU on cooperation to generate high-impact research between Chulalongkorn University and Naresuan University, represented by Prof. Dr.Kornkanok Ingkaninan, Vice President for Research and Innovation Development, Naresuan University, Dr. Yutthapong Tongpob, Assistant to the President for Research and Innovation Development, Dr. Jaruwan Daengbuppha, Assistant to the President for Student Affairs, Faculty of Business, Economics and Communications, Naresuan University, on June 2, 2023, at Thao Saed Meeting Room, King Naresuan Exhibition and Convention Center (KNECC), Phitsanulok.

The objectives of this MOU signing are to exchange and support research and academic work, produce impactful research, and jointly disseminate information and news on research and academics in order to increase research capability and promote activities that support the development of the area.

Mr. Songphol Wichaikadka, Deputy Governor of Phitsanulok, Mrs. Parisa Parnphrom, Chiang Mai Provincial Tourism and Sports Office, Ms. Nipawan Kanjanaphitak, Phitsanulok Provincial Culture Office, along with administrators, faculty members, researchers, and personnel of both universities were present as witnesses to this signing.

The event also featured an academic seminar on “Relations between University and City for Handling New Challenges,” with speakers from 4 universities in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, namely

– “A Strategic Alliance of Business, Government, and Universities for Regional Growth: The Case of Fukuoka Development Council in Japan” by Prof.Dr.Takefumi Kurose, Division Director, Department of Architecture and Urban Design, Faculty of Human Environment Studies, Kyushu University, Japan

– “The Role of Tourism and Hospitality Research in Providing State-of-Art Expertise to Benefit Academic and Industry” by Prof.Dr.Pearl Lin, President of Kainan University, Taiwan

– “People in The City of Becoming: People, Lifestyles, and the Future of Driving Entrepreneurial Society towards Sustainable Development of University Town” by Dr. Jaruwan Daengbuppha, Assistant to the President for Student Affairs and Director of the Center of Excellence in Tourism Management Research, Naresuan University

– “Strategies for University Town Development in Regional Thailand: A Case Study of Phitsanulok” under a collaboration between Naresuan University and Chulalongkorn University by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nattapong Punnoi, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Deputy Director of Design for Creative Economy Research Unit, Chulalongkorn University

The “Strategies for University Town Development in Regional Thailand: A Case Study of Phitsanulok” research project will be the first research pilot project after the MOU signing. It is a collaboration of researchers from both universities to create innovation for university development for the city and city for university, with Phitsanulok as a case study to be a model for the development of university towns in other areas.

Chula’s encouragement and support for research is excellent for teachers, students, and the public.
