The English as an International Language (EIL) Program at the Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Indiana University, USA, organized a joint research conference on May 25, 2024 at Indiana University ASEAN Gateway Office in Bangkok. The conference focused on presenting research papers under the theme “Advancing Theories and Practices in Teaching and Assessing English as an International Language in ASEAN.”
Prof. Faridah Pawan, Academic Director of IU ASEAN Gateway Office, warmly welcomed all participants, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Punchalee Wasanasomsithi, Director of the EIL Program, delivered the opening speech. Prof. Sun-Young Shin from the Department of Second Language Studies, The College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University, chaired the meeting. The conference featured presentations by professors from Indiana University and Chulalongkorn University, as well as guest presenters from the University of Macau and Suranaree University of Technology.
The purpose of the conference was to provide participants with an opportunity to explore their use of the English language, delve into contemporary English language learning, teaching methodologies, and assessments, and stay informed about the latest innovations in English language teaching and learning, particularly in the ASEAN context.
The joint research conference successfully facilitated the exchange of innovative ideas and practices, reinforcing the long-standing collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Indiana University in advancing English language education in the ASEAN region.
