This conference is a result of the establishment of The Society of Asian Food Studies, in conjunction with The Committee of Asian Food Study Conference. The purpose is to create a platform for disseminating and exchanging knowledge about food culture in Asia, particularly focusing on issues related to plant-based diets, which is a growing consumption trend. This event also serves to promote the role of The Society of Asian Food Studies, as well as creates a platform for knowledge exchange among academics and strengthens the academic network in Asian food culture. This initiative supports Chulalongkorn University’s strategic goal of becoming an internationally recognized source for disseminating knowledge at a global level.

The 70 participants were both Thai and foreign researchers, especially those from the People’s Republic of China and Japan.

The conference received excellent cooperation from the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, The Center for Gastronomic Arts and Sciences, Ritsumeikan University, in Japan, and the Zhejiang Merchant Institute of Zhejiang Gongshang University in the People’s Republic of China.

Chula is the place to discover one’s true individuality and the years I spent here were most enjoyable.
