The Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, CU Nited Extension Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the Subcommittee on National Soft Power Development in Film, Drama, and Series, the Thai Film Directors Association, and the Television Scriptwriters Association, held a press conference to launch the “One Family, One Soft Power (OFOS)” project, offering online courses and filmmaking skill-enhancement activities. The event took place on October 15, 2024, at Lido Connect. Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Driving the ‘One Family, One Soft Power’ (OFOS) Policy, delivered the opening speech, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Preeda Akranuchoti, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, welcomed the attendees. Mr. Chookiat Sakveerakul, representative of the Subcommittee on Soft Power in Film and Series, gave a report, and Mr. Prasop Rian-ngern, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, gave the welcoming address. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, shared insightful perspectives with students participating in the project.
Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Driving the ‘One Family, One Soft Power’ (OFOS) Policy, stated that this initiative focuses on creating a highly skilled workforce to increase income opportunities and improve the quality of life for people across the country. It also aims to reduce social inequality in Thailand by developing skills in film production. The project consists of various activities that emphasize learning and enhancing storytelling and filmmaking skills for participants at all levels, with the goal of fostering a new generation of skilled individuals. In addition, the courses go beyond basic knowledge by inviting world-class experts to lead workshops and further develop participants’ skills.”
Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat pointed out that participants in this course would not only gain filmmaking skills but also play a crucial role in driving the national economy, especially through soft power, which serves as a tool to attract international attention and generate economic value for Thailand. He highlighted the importance of branding and presenting one’s identity, making Thai soft power unique. The project aims to inspire young people, hoping that they will grow into capable filmmakers under the guidance and support of experienced professionals through this initiative.
