Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts hosted the international academic conference, “2025 International Symposium in Music Therapy,” which was presided over by Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, the university’s president, at the opening ceremony on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Princess Sirivannavari Room, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Professor Dr. Kumkom Pornprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, delivered a welcoming address, and the event was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Pornprapit Phoasavadi, Head of the Master’s Program in Fine Arts, Music Therapy (International). Associate Professor Dr. Sirithorn Srichalakom, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, and Associate Professor Dr. Patcharin Santichajawan, Deputy Dean for Administration, also joined in welcoming the participants.
The conference was honored by keynote speakers, including Professor Dr. Issarang Nuchprayoon from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University; Dr. Suthida Suwanvecho from Bumrungrad Hospital; and Associate Professor Dr. Nipat Pichayayothin from the Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University. Their keynote address was titled “Insights from Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Care and Development.”
The “2025 International Symposium in Music Therapy” is a joint academic collaboration among three universities: Luca School of Art, KU Leuven (Belgium), Tunghai University (Taiwan, People’s Republic of China), and the Master’s Program in Fine Arts, Music Therapy (International) at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. This event marks the first time Chulalongkorn University has hosted an academic conference on music therapy, featuring research presentations by world-renowned experts in the field of music therapy, including Prof. Jos De Backer and Prof. Katrien Foubert, who presented on Clinical Improvisations for Psychiatric Patients.
The event attracted experts in music therapy, scholars, professionals, faculty, students, and individuals interested in the field from Thailand and abroad, including Belgium, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, Mahidol University, and Khon Kaen University. A total of 110 participants attended the conference.
