The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), Asian Research Center for Migration (ARCM), Institute of Asian Studies (IAS), The ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), and Chula Global Network (CGN) Chulalongkorn University, organized the “HeForShe University Tour: Bringing Gender Equality to Your Campus!” on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Maha Chulalongkorn Building, Chulalongkorn University.
HeForShe was set up to promote all genders to stand in solidarity with women to create a bolder and more gender-equal world. The event brought gender equality conversations directly to the university campus, and provided a forum for critical debate and discussion.
Notable speakers for the event included Mr. Mohammad Naciri, Regional Director for the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, H.E. Mr. Staffan Herrström, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand, Dr. Ratchada Jayagupta, Representative of Thailand, ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), and Dr. Pirongrong Ramasoota, Vice President for Social Outreach and Global Engagement, Chulalongkorn University. Other key speakers who shared their experiences were Watcharapon “Sia” Kukaewkasem, social worker, migrant women’s rights advocate and activist from Akha community; Busayapa “Best” Srisompong, lawyer and founder of SHero, #ItHappenedToMeToo; Jomtian Jansomrag, writer, content creator, and activist; Emma Thomas, Muay Thai fighter, blogger, and activist; and Thararat Panya, activist.
