Chulalongkorn University continues to hold the number 1 spot in Thailand in the Webometrics Ranking of Universities: July 2025, conducted by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). This ranking evaluates university websites worldwide.
The Webometrics Ranking of Universities is based on two types of indicators: Webometric Indicators and Bibliometric Indicators, using data from reliable sources such as Majestic, OpenAlex, and Scimago-Scopus.
The purpose of the Webometrics Ranking of Universities is to assess academic output published on the internet beyond research published in journals or other formats, with a focus on measuring the ability of institutions to function as E-universities. The ranking results are consistent with other international university rankings that highlight leading global universities.
Webometrics stands out for providing extensive data on higher education institutions in developing countries (the Global South), serving as a valuable tool to present a more comprehensive picture of global higher education.
The Webometrics University Ranking uses a Composite Scoring Model that combines Normalized Indicators to ensure fair and balanced evaluation. The indicators are divided into three main dimensions as follows:
Measured by the number of external domains linking to the university’s website (External Referring Domains), based on data from Ahrefs.com. This reflects the global influence and accessibility of the university’s website.
Measured by the number of citations of the top 310 researchers (excluding 20 outliers with abnormally high values), based on their Google Scholar profiles. This reflects the openness and credibility of academic work.
Measured by the number of institutional research papers ranked among the top 10% most cited publications during 2019–2023, using data from Scopus and Scimago. This reflects the quality and global impact of academic output.
Note: The Presence indicator (web presence) has been discontinued to avoid data redundancy and manipulations that may distort ranking results.
