Professor Dr. Voranop Viyakarn, Director of the Aquatic Resources Research Institute at Chulalongkorn University, along with Professor Dr. Suchana Chavanich, Deputy Director of the Institute and lecturer of the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, participated in the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Fourth Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, P.R. China, in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, People’s Republic of China.
The signing ceremony was officially held under the China–ASEAN Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation and Development (CAFBE 2025), with Mr. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China, serving as a witness. This reflects the commitment of both countries to promote cooperation in marine science, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14: Life Below Water) and within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030).
Under this cooperation framework, the two institutions will conduct joint research, exchange researchers and students, and develop knowledge and technologies related to marine resource management, coral reef conservation and restoration, and marine biodiversity.
This collaboration marks an important step toward building an international research network and enhancing Chulalongkorn University’s role on the global stage of marine science.
