Chulalongkorn University organized the “Music Commemoration Day 2025 on, September 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Chulalongkorn University Auditorium.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and was held in remembrance of the great royal benevolence of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (King Rama IX), who graciously performed music with the CU Band at the university’s auditorium between 1958 and 1973.
This year’s event began with a performance by the CU Band Alumni Club (OCU Band), who played royal compositions and other beautiful pieces alongside guest vocalists and members of the Friday Music Lovers Band.
The event also featured a performance by the Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School Marching Band, who performed the royal compositions “Klai Roong” (Near Dawn) and “Rak” (Love).
Following this, the OCU Band, a special ensemble known for international performances of the King’s compositions, returned to the stage to once again present these revered works as part of the commemoration.
The event concluded with a performance by the CU Band (Chulalongkorn University’s Student Music Club), presenting beautifully arranged versions of university-themed songs such as “Dao Chula” (Chula Star), “Chula Samba”, and “CU Polka” through a musical theater performance titled “Nai Rua Chompoo” (Within the Pink Walls).
This musical reflected on student life at Chula and cherished memories within the university. A special highlight was a rendition of the song “Chula Khong Rao” (Our Chula) performed by the university’s executives, faculty leaders, and the President himself, who also joined in the spirited “Boom-Ba-Ka” cheer, leaving a strong impression on the audience. The event ended with a touching performance of the royal composition “When”.
Chulalongkorn University commemorates “Music Commemoration Day” every year on September 20 as part of its official university calendar. This event honors King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who graciously performed music with the CU Band at the university auditorium. The tradition has been held annually since 2000.
The event atmosphere was warm and nostalgic, attended by Chula alumni, faculty, staff, students, and members of the public. Attendees enjoyed the exquisite royal compositions and traditional Chula songs, bringing back fond memories of the times His Majesty King Rama IX performed at the university.
As with every year, donations were collected in support of the Ananda Mahidol Foundation, continuing a longstanding tradition of giving associated with this commemorative event.
