Chula Faculty Honored into the 2025 International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame

Chulalongkorn University extends its heartfelt congratulations and pride to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwithida Charungkaittikul, faculty member in the Department of Lifelong Education, Faculty of Education, for earning international acclaim through her induction into the 2025 International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (IACEHOF). She is the third Thai national to receive this prestigious honor, further reinforcing Chulalongkorn University’s global academic leadership, especially in the field of lifelong learning.

Founded in 1996, the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (IACEHOF) is a prestigious institution that recognizes distinguished educators in adult and continuing education from around the world. Being inducted into IACEHOF represents one of the highest honors in the profession. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwithida’s name will be permanently recorded as a member of the 2025 class of inductees—an achievement of national pride and recognition for Thailand.

This distinction acknowledges her as a pioneering leader who has made significant contributions to the advancement of adult education and lifelong learning on an international level. It is a reflection of her dedication, passion, and long-standing impact in the field.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwithida previously served as the Director of the General Education Center at Chulalongkorn University and led the Digital Lifelong Learning Solutions project. A devoted educator and researcher in lifelong learning, she is known as a scholar who both envisions and takes action, transforming the concept of lifelong learning into a tangible reality in Thai society.

Her outstanding academic work has played a critical role in shaping educational policies and innovations, with research projects funded both nationally and internationally. Highlights include:

  • “Chula MOOC Flexi”, a digital learning platform that has reached over 180,000 learners, demonstrating her commitment to bridging theory and practice and preparing Thai citizens with future-ready digital skills.
  • National policy influence: Her past research has significantly influenced Thailand’s lifelong learning policies and the development of “learning cities” that promote sustainable learning communities.
  • Internationally recognized research: Her work includes “Concepts and Approaches for Promoting Lifelong Learning in Thailand” and co-editing the book “The Eight Pillars of Lifelong Education: Thailand Studies”, a valuable resource for policy decision-making. Her research on learning societies earned a national outstanding research article award and has been used in collaboration with UNESCO in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • International leadership: She has organized international conferences on adult and continuing education at Chulalongkorn University, attracting global participants. Most recently, she was appointed Chair of the PIMA Network, a global network of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in adult and continuing education, and she serves as the Southeast Asia Coordinator for the ASEM Lifelong Learning Hub
  • Mentoring the next generation: She has advised and supervised over 70 theses and academic articles, nurturing new talent and continuously contributing to academic development.
  • Extending impact to society: She has served as an advisor in transforming cities into learning hubs and promoting innovation through the Partnership School project, which has expanded English language and coding education in multiple schools.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwithida Charungkaittikul’s induction into the 2025 IACEHOF—as only the third Thai recipient—represents a major source of national pride. It is a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and commitment to academic excellence with cross-border impact, contributing positively to the Thai education system. Her achievement opens new avenues for academic collaboration and policy development that align with future challenges. This success serves as an inspiration for the Thai academic community to drive educational innovation and advance toward a sustainable learning society.

The IACEHOF 2025 induction ceremony will take place at the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) World Assembly on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, USA, which houses the IACEHOF. The black-tie event will feature formal introductions of inductees, award plaques, and medals. A Pre-induction Symposium will also be held, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwithida will be invited to speak about her career journey and vision for the future of adult and continuing education.
