Miss Thanyapat Manasarakun, a fourth-year student at the Department of Visual Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, was awarded the Most Promising Artist of the year, the highest prize in the Emerging Artists Category, at the 16th UOB Painting of the Year 2025.
Thanyapat’s painting, titled “Ctrl + Alt + Destruct,” reflects the double-edged nature of technology and artificial intelligence. The artwork depicts a hand grenade embedded with keyboard keys “CTRL,” “ALT,” and “DES,” symbolizing the power of digital tools that can both create and destroy at the same time.
Thanyapat said she felt greatly honor of receceiving the award, explaining that Ctrl + Alt + Destruct represents both the strength and fragility of technology, as well as the potential consequences of its misuse. She hopes the piece will inspire people to recognize the importance of empathy, communication, and open-mindedness toward diversity in society.
The winning artworks from the UOB Painting of the Year 2025, including both the professional and emerging artist categories, are exhibited at:
