Chulalongkorn University welcomed top coding talents from across Asia at the 2025 ICPC Asia Bangkok Regional Contest, an international programming competition for university students, held from November 1–2, 2025. This event serves as one of the key Asia-Pacific regional contests to select representatives for the ICPC World Finals 2026. The opening ceremony on November 1, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering Auditorium, was presided over by Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, with an opening report by Asst. The ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest), often called the “Olympics of university-level computing,” aims to promote problem-solving skills, teamwork, and creativity through challenging programming problems. The competition, which began in 1970 and has grown to involve over 50,000 contestants from more than 100 countries, features teams of three students who must plan, design, and code algorithmic solutions within five hours to earn the title of the world’s top coders. Thailand previously hosted the ICPC World Finals in 2016.

This year, Thailand has the honor of hosting the ICPC Asia Bangkok Regional Contest, with Chulalongkorn University as the main organizer. The contest features 58 teams from 25 universities across six countries — Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand — and took place from November 1–2, 2025. The event serves as a major platform for advancing Thai youth onto the international stage while inspiring computer science students nationwide.

Each competing team consists of three university students who collaborate to solve algorithmic problems within five hours, using only one computer. The winning team earns the right to compete in the ICPC World Finals, while other outstanding teams will advance to the Championship Round.

This year’s competition was made possible through the collaboration of three key departments at Chulalongkorn University:

Chula’s encouragement and support for research is excellent for teachers, students, and the public.
