Chula Provides Healthcare Services for flood victims in Hat Yai

December 5, 2025 – Chulalongkorn University, through its Faculty of Nursing, in collaboration with the Friends in Need (of “Pa”) Volunteers Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society, Channel 7HD Television, and Chula’s Southern Flood Relief Network, deployed a mobile unit to provide services to flood victims in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. Services were provided on the 3rd floor of Central Festival Hat Yai Department Store and in the Hat Yai Railway Station community area. A total of 78 people received services. The most common health issues found included immersion foot, body aches, insomnia, stress, skin rashes, and lack of access to personal medications.

The faculty members and students of the Faculty of Nursing, Chulalongkorn University, who provided health screening services at the Chula Disaster Relief Network Coordination Center in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, included: 

  • Asst. Prof. Pinyo Charoensuk 
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Patcharin Khrongtham 
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wiwat Laochai 
  • Nurse Duangkamon Sukthongsa (PhD student) 
  • Nurse Nattanicha Singjan (PhD student) 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wiwat Laochai of the Faculty of Nursing stated that the faculty deployed teams to provide physical and mental healthcare services to flood victims. He invited people in the area to come and receive free services, including influenza vaccinations. 

Despite the difficult situation, there were touching moments of heartfelt gratitude. One significant message of encouragement came from Ms. Wimon Saetiao, a resident of Hat Yai, Songkhla, who wrote on December 5, 2025:

For the benefit of all people 
Chulalongkorn University 
Number one in the nation”
