Bangkok, Thailand — On Saturday, 13 December 2025, at 12:26 p.m., at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, Their Majesties the King and Queen graciously granted a Royal Audience to Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Chulalongkorn University Council, who led a delegation of university executives to humbly present an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree in Sports and Exercise Science to Her Majesty the Queen. The presentation included the academic gown, academic insignia and degree certificate.
Her Majesty the Queen has been steadfast in her commitment to sports and physical exercise. Her athletic abilities are widely recognized and she has participated in numerous sporting events as a representative of Thailand. These include international sailing competitions such as the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta; a cross-gulf sailing event held in celebration of His Majesty the King’s Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024; the Puerto Portals 52 Super Series Sailing Week in the Kingdom of Spain; and a friendly ice hockey match between the People’s Republic of China and the Kingdom of Thailand. In addition, Her Majesty maintains a keen interest in running and cycling, reflecting her continued dedication to health and physical fitness.
Her Majesty the Queen is widely regarded as an inspiring role model in sports and exercise, exemplifying sportsmanship and determination. Through her gracious gestures of encouragement, Her Majesty consistently promotes public awareness of the importance of regular physical activity and personal well-being.
In recognition of Her Majesty’s exemplary contributions to the advancement of sports and exercise, the Chulalongkorn University Council, at its 898th meeting on 27 March 2024, unanimously resolved to seek royal permission to present the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree in Sports and Exercise Science to Her Majesty the Queen, in honor of her distinguished achievements and as a testament to the University’s enduring loyalty and respect for the Monarchy.
