The Chula Book Center at Siam Square reopened on May 18, 2020 and is geared up with the safety measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. So that students and the public can use the book center services with confidence, all staff are required to wear a face mask and a face shield. Standardized screening and cleaning measures have also been set up, including:
In addition, all customers are required to wear a face mask while in the book center.
The Chula Book Center is ready to reopen in all eight branches with similar safety standards, except the ‘Sala Phra Kieo’ branch, which remains closed until the campus opens.
On the first day of reopening, customers at the Chula Book Center, Siam Square, were asked to share their thoughts on the changes.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pimpan Dachakupt, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, commented that the new renovation of the Siam Square branch has made the center more spacious, with areas to stroll around and look for books, making it easier and more enjoyable to buy books from leading publishers in Thailand and abroad. Quite impressive was the swift and friendly service, which will make customers return. There was also a ‘Chula’ Book Club, with a list of beverages to order. The Chula Book Center is ready to service book buyers during the times of COVID-19.
Ms. Pravina and Ms. Suchada Ratchasang from Khon Kaen province said that this was their first visit to the Chula Book Center, Siam Square branch. The store atmosphere was pleasant, with a variety of books to choose from. The staff also advised and helped customers find the books they needed. As for the COVID-19 prevention measures, the Chula Book Center has prepared well by scanning and checking everyone’s temperature before entering and providing alcohol-based hand sanitizers in high-traffic areas. It felt safe to use the service.
Mr. Paulphisit. Dejchaiyasak, a Ruamrudee International School alumnus, said that the store was clean. Books were in order, well-organized, and easy to find. It is an accessible book center with various types of books to choose from.
Mr. Sinthop Wongthongdee, an office employee who came to buy books about teaching and learning for his grandchildren, said that the atmosphere after the renovation was brighter, more spacious, and very orderly, making him want to look for books. The center had plenty of quality books that one can get in a single place. Overall, the COVID-19 prevention measures were great, including the barcode log in, temperature check, social distancing, and protective panels at the cashiers.
