Satit Chula Students Win Gold and Silver Medals from Innovation Week Africa 2020

Two thumbs up for the Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School students in winning the gold and silver medals from the Innovation Week Africa 2020, held in Morocco on 16 September 2021.

The two fantastic innovations were:

‘FunPlosion’ – Smart Bathroom in the New Normal

‘FunPlosion’ – Smart Bathroom
  • Created by Phuricha Nonghanpitak, Yanawat Krisadathanon, Kaweewat Santivoraphong, Pranrak Baikloi, Parawee Nonghanpitak.
  • The ‘FunPlosion’ invention won the Youth Grand Prize, Youth Best Invention from the entire competition, and the Master of Innovation.  The concept of ‘FunPlosion’ came about when the creators noted how common it was for children to refuse morning showers.  The innovation controls the water temperature so that it is not too hot, making shower time more relaxing and fun, while at the same time enhancing good sleep.  For over two years, the student team planned, brainstormed, worked to create and improve the application and machine.

“Smart School Bag”

  • Created by Thantham Ruengwutthasakulchai, Naphasanan Sumethphimonchai and Titchaya Munkong.
  • The ‘Smart School Bag’ received a silver medal and the Master of Innovation. As swimmers, the team has come up with a solution to their problem of forgetting where they put their school bags and sometimes picked up the wrong one. The innovation, an application that helps find a lost school bag, uses a sensor system to detect where the bag is and checks whether all books are accounted for. This application can also assist students in organizing books according to a class timetable, simply by scanning the QR Code on a textbook. Another useful function the app has is it can show whether a textbook is in the classroom or at home.

The achievements of these young innovators were supported by the Satit Chula Innovation Hub, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School, led by Teacher Jeerasak Jitrojanarak. The students were fully supported by their parents who constantly played an important role in their success at international innovation contests.

Chula’s encouragement and support for research is excellent for teachers, students, and the public.
