Chula nuclear engineers developed Thailand’s only gamma-ray tree scanner to pinpoint potential cavities in the trunks and roots that may cause the tree to fall, and to inspect the quality of wooden structures, while striving to increase the device’s accuracy.
In the aftermath of the 8.2 magnitude earthquake on March 28, 2025, which affected many parts of Thailand, professors from the Department of Nuclear Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, have warned of the increased risk of radon gas exposure—particularly in Bangkok, where seismic activity may cause underground fissures that allow radon to seep into homes and buildings. As radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas linked to lung cancer, the department urges the public to monitor indoor radon levels and improve ventilation in ground-level areas. Chulalongkorn University is the first institution in Thailand equipped with a radon calibration system and offers professional radon measurement services for households, industries, and public institutions to promote safety and build public confidence.
Researchers at the Chulalongkorn Aquatic Resources Research Institute have developed guidelines to help corals adapt to global warming by gender-based artificial insemination and coral culture in high-temperature at birth to offer them a better chance for survival as “corals against global warming,” while unveiling freezing technology for coral sperm cells to revive corals when the marine environment is restored.
A lecturer from the Food Technology Department, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University and a team from various institutes have collaborated to produce the “Healthy Living with Thai Cuisine” cookbook, presenting recipes from 4 regions of Thailand, combination of “side dishes” to eat with rice to achieve balanced and complete nutrition in each meal, hoping to preserve the nutritious meal based on Thai eating culture and unique Thai taste to promote good health for Thai people.
A professor of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Science has invented a skincare formula from microbiome and 4P-biotics technology, creating serum and sunscreen lotion products under the brand THANARA to support the balance of the microbiome on the facial skin that supports healthy, youthful, clear, and acne-free skin.
A lecturer from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, and the Center of Excellence in Molecular Crop, Chulalongkorn University, has developed the innovative Arto Sucrose-Reduced Technology—an enzyme-based process that transforms sucrose in fruits into prebiotic compounds. This breakthrough allows fruit-derived purées to be used as healthier food ingredients, aligning with the growing trend toward health-conscious food products.
To transform Songkran and Loy Krathong into world-class attractions, Thailand must enhance safety, improve infrastructure, and integrate deeper cultural storytelling with engaging experiences
The Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Chulalongkorn University Learning Innovation Center have developed an AR simulation of the stomachs of ruminants. This interactive technology allows students to learn about the digestive system and internal organs realistically. The platform is accessible via a web browser, minimizing reliance on animal carcasses and enabling students to share content collaboratively with other institutions.
Hazardous waste is close to us and the community. The Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) Chula has used research to push the End of Waste policy, manage E-Waste continuously, and conduct Mega Project research to study oil rigs that will not be used in the future, while pleading for all sectors to participate in solving the problem for better health and environment.
The Institute of Thai Studies, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, is promoting the “Pha Khao Ma and the Thai Way of Life”, which is a national cultural heritage, to the UNESCO stage by accelerating the systematic creation of a database of Thai Pha Khao Ma patterns from all sectors for the benefit of preserving the national cultural heritage and promoting the creation of Pa Khao Ma identity patterns by organizations and communities, including the utilization of the database for further development in the community enterprise and marketing sectors to increase the economic value of Pha Khao Ma and the sustainable expansion of the community economy.
