Muay Thai is fast on the rise and has become yet another form of soft power that generates income for the country. Boxing stadiums are popular attractions that attract tourists to witness this special form of Thai martial art. Many boxing camps are bustling with foreigners interested in learning about the sport, and many Muay Thai competition venues have emerged in both the capital and major tourist provinces. Boxing shorts are a “must-have souvenir” from Thailand.
Thai robots are ready to enter the aging society. Chulalongkorn alumni, the founder of CT Asia Robotics Company, launched the latest version of the “Dinsaw Robot,” “Home AI Assistance,” a 24-hour home assistant for the elderly and the sick, with direct connection to the hospital in case of emergency.
“Historically, the Thai language is primarily rooted in the Tai-Kadai language family, with some adaptations over time, especially in basic vocabulary used for common or general concepts. Some Thai words were influenced by the Khmer language, and others were borrowed from languages such as Pali and Sanskrit,” according to Assistant Professor Dr. Kiat Thepchuaysuk, Director of the Center for Thai as a Foreign Language (CTFL), Chulalongkorn University.
From poetry to prose in an alternate world genre, an innovative teaching media for Thai literature by a Thai lecturer from the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, which invites the modern generation to talk, ask questions, and discuss characters and stories in Thai literature, connecting them to life and current social issues, transforming the Thai literature classroom making it trendy, fun, and no longer boring.
Students of the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University came up with the idea of “COCOLAMP” — light bulb shades that divert lights on the beach that interfere with the spawning of sea turtles and help sea turtle hatchlings to crawl safely into the sea. This innovation is for the conservation of sea turtles, and the promotion of their coexistence with humans.
The Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University has developed Halal Route, an application that lists restaurants, lodging, mosques, prayer directions, and tourist attractions in Thailand under Islamic tourism principles. It hopes to help Muslim tourists travel in Thailand with peace of mind, and supports tourism industry operators to grow and welcome a growing number of Muslim tourists.
Chulalongkorn University has provided funding for the Innovation Center for Research and Development of Sustainable Thai Cocoa (ISTC) to address the cocoa price crisis by providing farmers with knowledge about the cultivation, harvesting, and fermentation of cocoa. The center aims to promote local cocoa-processing businesses, emphasizing that Thai cocoa has potential but must focus on the “quality market,” showcasing its unique aroma and flavor.
Lecturers at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, have developed an alternative “Transfersome Gel” to help treat hypertrophic scars and dark marks. This gel, made from a key substance found in the Indian pennywort (Centella asiatica) plant, features a special technique that has earned it the International Gold Medal of Innovation at ITEX 2024 and a special award from the Korea Invention Promotion Association.
