Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, the President of Chulalongkorn University, participated in the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration event, “Farewell to the Year of the Dragon, Welcome the Year of the Snake,” organized by the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Studies Department of the Faculty of Arts on January 21, 2025, at Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. The event was attended by over 200 participants, including Associate Professor Dr. Siridej Sujiva and Associate Professor Dr. Palanee Ammaranond, Vice Presidents of Chulalongkorn University; Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Professor Fu Zhengyou, Senior Advisor to the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University; and Associate Professor Dr. Han Shenglong, Director of the Chinese Department at the Confucius Institute.
The celebration began with a spectacular lion dance performance after which Associate Professor Dr. Siridej Sujiva, Vice President, opened the event. The university administrators received symbolic oranges from the Confucius Institute and took group photos. Following this, eight performances took place, including a song performance of “Tan Yuan Ren Chang Jiu” by students from the Faculty of Arts, a guzheng performance with accompanying dance in the song “Qing Hua Si,” a singing performance of “Lian Se De Meng Gu Gao Yuan” by teachers from the Confucius Institute, a Chinese talk show by engineering students, Chinese brush art by students from the Faculty of Arts, a Peking opera face-changing performance, and a kung fu dance performance by performers from the Haitilao troupe, as well as a Chinese New Year song performed by instructors from the Confucius Institute.
During the event, Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, the President of Chulalongkorn University, extended his New Year wishes and received symbolic oranges from the Confucius Institute before a picture-taking session with the administrators and faculty. The attendees then enjoyed a variety of Chinese dishes, including Hunan cuisine, Xi’an cuisine, Dalian cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, and Mala Tang.
