Chula–BAT Partnership to Advance Sports Science and Develop Athletes 

Chulalongkorn University and the Badminton Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage have signed an academic cooperation agreement to jointly develop sports science innovations and promote athlete excellence while strengthening Thailand’s current standing in international badminton. 

Chulalongkorn University and the Badminton Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage recently signed an academic cooperation agreement to enhance the capabilities of sports science personnel, aiming for excellence in the development of Thailand’s national badminton athletes. The signing ceremony, held on April 21, 2025, at the Reception Room on the 2nd floor of Chamchuri Building 4, featured Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, President of the Badminton Association of Thailand, as the signatories.

Witnesses of the agreement included: 

  • Associate Professor Dr. Sukanya Sompiboon, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University 
  • Associate Professor Dr. Chaipat Lawsirirat, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science, Chulalongkorn University 
  • Air Chief Marshal Monthon Satchukorn, First Vice President of the Badminton Association of Thailand 
  • Air Chief Marshal Thavorn Sirisamphan, Honorary Advisor to the Badminton Association of Thailand 

This academic cooperation agreement aims at developing Thailand’s national badminton athletes and jointly design training programs for sports scientists. It also includes organizing national and international academic conferences in sports science, generating new knowledge and innovations in sports science, and enhancing the capabilities of sports scientists. These initiatives are expected to improve the performance of both Chulalongkorn University’s athletes and those affiliated with the Badminton Association of Thailand, ultimately leading to international levels of excellence. 

The partnership also focuses on a systematic development of badminton athletes from the grassroots level to elite athletes, ensuring sustainable growth in the sports sector. Additionally, the collaboration will promote and advance research in sports science, support related personnel, equipment, and tools, provide relevant experts, and encourage the publication of research findings both nationally and internationally. The cooperation also extends to offering sports science services to strengthen the academic network in the field.
