On the auspicious occasion of Pope Francis’s visit to Thailand as part of His itinerary on the Apostolic Journey, Chulalongkorn University Concert Choir welcomes Papa with songs of peace.
The choir is a collaborative effort among CU Concert Choir, Moo Hkof Hpau Children’s Choir from St. Joseph Mae Chaem School, Chiang Mai, and Attar Chorus from Attarkiah Islamiah Institute, Narathiwat. Such alliance suggests that the nation values multiculturalism and diversity of faiths which has strongly unified Thai society.
Under Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra of Office of Art and Culture, the two pieces being performed are “Peace Prayer” calling us to be an instrument of peace, arranged for chorus by Reverend Father Booncharat Suksawang, and “Songs of Freedom” urging us to overcome discordance, o become in unison, arranged for the chorus by Amanunt Chantarawirote.
This choral performance is under the baton of Dr. Pawasut Piriyapongrat who travelled to Chiang Mai and Narathiwat to work with both school choirs during the past two months.
