Developed with support from the Fundamental Fund for Fiscal Year 2024 at Chulalongkorn University, MAGIC: English Gamified Quest in the Metaverse combines metaverse technology with gamification to enhance English listening and speaking skills for Thai university students. The program includes four lessons simulating real-life situations and five practical activities, developed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) based on 300 non-English major students and tested on 67 English major students from northern, northeastern, and central Thailand.

The innovation emphasizes digital gamification, promoting spoken English communication, increasing motivation, and providing immediate feedback. Results showed a significant improvement in spoken communication skills (p = .000), with students rating their motivation at 4.04 out of 5 (SD = 0.51). While no direct correlation was found between motivation and skill development, focus group interviews showed highly positive feedback from students learning English as a foreign language.

Chula is the place to discover one’s true individuality and the years I spent here were most enjoyable.
