The Chula Zero Waste project, in collaboration with the Office of Physical Resources Management, the Office of Student Affairs, the Property Management Office of Chulalongkorn University, and the IL IU program, organized the second edition of the Barter System Fair: Swap & Share Market #2 under the theme “Hidden Treasures” on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the multi-purpose building of the Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park. The event aims to promote responsible consumption in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, which ensures sustainable patterns of production and consumption among Chulalongkorn University students and staff.
Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, presided over the opening ceremony. The event featured a “CU Barter Talk” discussion, where Chulalongkorn students shared ideas on creating a resource-sharing culture within the university. Participants also engaged in exchanging unused but well-maintained items, giving them new life with new owners. The event included exhibitions raising awareness about responsible consumption, along with musical performances by Chulalongkorn students.
Professor Dr. Wilert emphasized the university’s commitment to sustainability across all dimensions, including education, research, and environmental conservation. He stated that the “Barter System Fair” reflects Chulalongkorn University’s dedication to building a sustainable society, in line with its vision of being a world-class university that focuses on holistic development centered on its students. This approach aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with public consciousness and a focus on collective benefit.
This event highlighted Chulalongkorn University’s proactive stance on addressing environmental challenges and excessive consumption. The exchange of unused items is more than simply an act of recycling—it represents a cultural shift towards sharing, waste reduction, and efficient resource utilization.
