Overview
Established in 2001, the English as an International Language (EIL) Program is an interdisciplinary and international program that aims to develop first-rate scholars of English as an International Language serving all different sectors. It trains students to cultivate a strong specialization in English linguistics, instruction, or assessment and evaluation, or a combination of these. They are expected to master English to gain knowledge and access to information and state-of-the-art technology in the international community for academic and professional development.
The EIL Program has produced 117 Ph.D. holders and 165 Master’s degree graduates. They play significant roles and hold various responsibilities in several organizations and agencies, for example, as instructors of English at both public and private institutes, language trainers at international organizations, and program managers at private agencies. In brief, the EIL Program has always committed itself to excel in producing scholars who are equipped with research, academic, and professional minds.

Education with Renowned International and Local Scholars
The EIL program hosts visiting professors who are internationally recognized experts in their research area. This experience gives students first-hand information and allows them to forge linkages and expand their networks.

International Exposure through Academic Conferences and Fora
The EIL program sends students to international excursions to expand their academic horizons. They are supported to participate in international conferences, enabling them to engage in academic dialogue with their international counterparts.

Learning while Maintaining Work-Life Balance
The EIL creates spaces for students to have fun while learning through yearly parties and co-curricular activities that strike a balance between learning and having fun.

Conference-ready Training through In-house Academic Forum
The EIL provides an avenue to equip its students with the essential skills to prepare them in presenting their researches and train them to organize conferences through its Doctoral Dissertation Seminar.

Admission
Application:
For BA Applicants
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of no less than 3.25 in languages, linguistics, literature, language teaching or related fields.
- TOEFL (iBT) score of at least 80 or CU-TEP score of at least 80 or 6.5 on the IELTS (Academic).
For MA Applicants
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree with a GPA of no less than 3.25 in languages, linguistics, literature, language teaching or related fields.
- TOEFL (iBT) score of at least 80 or CU-TEP score of at least 80 or 6.5 on the IELTS (Academic).
Required Documents:
- Three letters of recommendation from instructors and/or superordinates
- TOEFL (iBT), or IELTS, or CU-TEP results
- A research proposal concerning English as an International Language
