The Master of Arts in European Studies (MAEUS) is a one-year, full-time international program that is recognized worldwide. MAEUS is an interdisciplinary program part of Chulalongkorn University’s Graduate School in cooperation with Chula’s Faculty of Arts (History), Faculty of Political Science (International Relations), Faculty of Economics (Economics), and Faculty of Law (Law).
The world has become more and more interdependent due to political and economic globalization. European Studies are designed to keep pace with the changing paths of international affairs by studying the European nations and their integration, as well as analyzing their political and economic relations with Asia and the world. All classes are taught in English. Both master and doctoral European Studies are international programs, which aim at excellence in the area of globalization.
The MAEUS program, which began in 1997, was the first European Studies program in Southeast Asia to focus on the European integration process from different perspectives, combining the insights of different disciplines. With our long history in this field, our students will benefit from an extensive wealth of knowledge and experience of our faculty.
By combining insights from four core disciplines (history, international relations, economics, and law), MAEUS allows students to develop analytical skills focusing on the complexity of the European Union, acquiring both broad knowledge and a deeper understanding of students’ chosen field.
To ensure that students have real-world, practical experience, MAEUS organizes an annual three-weeks field trip to Europe. Students will have great opportunities to visit EU institutions, historic sites, museums, and other culturally significant points of interest.
Apart from the team of Chula’s professors across disciplines who are themselves graduates from prominent universities in their fields, MAEUS students are taught by internationally renowned visiting scholars, experts, and practitioners from distinguished universities and institutions from around the world.
MAEUS graduates often pursue their careers in the government sector, the private sector, international organizations, NGOs, embassies, and educational institutes.
Application for new student enrollment usually takes place from February to May annually. (Please check the program’s website for specific dates). Applicants can apply through the Graduate School’s website, or in-person at European Studies Office, 16th floor, Chalerm Rajakumari 60 Building (Chamchuree 10), Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University during Mon-Fri at 9.00-17.00. except for public holidays. The application fee is 650 baht.
